Christmas Pic ‘Get Santa’ Adds Cast As Filming Begins

Filming starts Thursday in London and Yorkshire on the Christmas movie starring Jim Broadbent and Rafe Spall. In the days before Christmas, 9-year-old Tom finds Santa (Broadbent) in his garden shed after escaping the wreckage of his sleigh and amid a desperate bid to return to Lapland. He’s ultimately arrested for trying to liberate his reindeer from Battersea Dogs Home as Tom and his father embark on a quest to save Christmas. Christopher Smith-directed film from Scott Free London, the BFI, Screen Yorkshire and Altitude Film Entertainment. Get Santa is produced by Liza Marshall, executive produced by Ridley Scott and Carlo Dusi and co-produced by Andrew Litvin and Jack Arbuthnott for Scott Free London. Natascha Wharton is executive producer on behalf of the BFI and Will Clarke and Andy Mayson exec producers for Altitude. Warner Bros is releasing in the UK. Altitude Film Sales is handling international sales.

The Lab’s Cooking Competition ‘Game Of Chefs’ Launching In Israel
Game-of-Chefs-5154ITV Studios and Reshet joint venture The Lab is launching new primetime competitive cooking series, Game Of Chefs. The 20-part hourlong series, produced in Israel by Constantine, will kick off January 19 in that country on Reshet with international format rights sold by ITV Studios Global Entertainment. Game Of Chefs follows three distinguished cooks who compete to find the country’s finest cooking talent. Pressure is on the mentors to ensure the amateurs are up to scratch, as their reputations are on the line. Contestants who make it through the audition phase have to survive a boot camp in which they must impress the chefs over a series of culinary challenges. The chefs then mentor the aspiring talents and their teams through a series of gastronomic battles in which they will cater for tricky clients in various challenging situations. The guests are the judges who eliminate someone from the losing team each week. The Lab previously developed reality format My Dream Wedding, which ITV Studios America has produced for TLC.

I Put a Hit On YouiDouble Dutch International has boarded international sales on Slamdance competition title, I Put A Hit On You. APA is repping U.S. rights. Aaron Ashmore (Smallville) and Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) star in the comical huis clos that involves a rejected marriage proposal, an online barter and a mysterious white van. The film, directed by Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, has its premiere on January 18th at the festival. It’s produced by Jordan Gross and Mike MacMillan.

E2 Films Picks Up Documentary ‘A World Not Ours’ For UK
E2 Films has acquired UK rights to Palestinian filmmaker Mahdi Fleifel’s debut feature documentary A World Not Ours. The movie, which won Best International Film in Edinburgh, the Peace Film Award in Berlin and the Black Pearl Award in Abu Dhabi, among others, will be released theatrically on February 21. Fleifel is a Palestinian filmmaker and visual artist based in London who recently developed his second feature at the Cannes’ Cinéfondation residence in Paris. A World Not Ours is a Lebanese-Danish-British co-production about three generations in exile in the refugee camp of Ein el-Helweh in southern Lebanon. Mahdi spent his formative years in the camp in the 1980s before his family settled in Denmark.

Richard Halliwell, Wayne Davison Join DRG
London-based TV distributor DRG has hired Richard Halliwell ass Chief Operations Officer and Wayne Davison as Creative Director. Halliwell previously was Commercial Director for Entertainment Formats at BBC Worldwide, running Dancing With The Stars from 2009-13. In that period, the format was rolled out into more than 40 international markets. Davison formerly was with the Shine Group as Commercial Director. He will be responsible for the commercial growth of the DRG’s program brands and formats and will manage DRG’s legal and business affairs and rights team. DRG is backed by Modern Times Group and works across all genres. Its formats include Antiques Road Trip, The Choir and Norway’s Mammon.
