Liberty Global Set To Acquire Dutch Cabler Ziggo
John Malone’s Liberty Global plans to expand its European cable holdings with an agreement to pay $9.4B in cash and stock for DZiggoutch cable operator Ziggo. If regulators approve the deal, then Liberty — which already owns 28.5% of Ziggo — will merge it with UPC, another cable company it owns there. “Our combined operations will reach over 90% of all Dutch households, allowing us to compete more effectively with the other national telecommunications and satellite platforms in the Netherlands, and at the same time generate significant revenue and operating efficiencies,” says Liberty Global CEO Mike Fries.

Epic Pictures Bringing ‘Louder Than Words’ To EFM

The drama from director Anthony Fabian (Skin) is exec produced by Rod Lurie (Straw Dogs) and stars Golden Globe winner David Duchovny and Golden Globe nominee Hope Davis in the true story of John and Brenda Fareri, who lose their youngest daughter to tragedy and go on to build a state-of-the-art children’s hospital in her honor with the help of an advisor (Oscar winner Timothy Hutton). Identity Films’ Anthony Mastromauro produced the pic which was scripted by Benjamin Chapin. Preferred Content is repping domestic rights while Epic handles international.

The Exchange Picks Up International Sales Rights To ‘Obvious Child
The Exchange has picked up international sales rights to the Sundance film Obvious Child and will bring the title to EFM in Berlin. The pic from first-time feature writer-director Gillian Robespierre stars Jenny Slate as a Brooklyn comedian who gets dumped, fired and pregnant just in time for Valentine’s Day. Forever nudged by her parents to make better choices, Donna does exactly that when a one-night stand leads to a difficult decision. Jake Lacy, David Cross and Gaby Hoffmann co-star in the film produced by Elisabeth Holm. A24 picked up North American rights to Obvious Child at Sundance and plans a 2014 theatrical release.

Amazon’s Lovefilm Bolsters Kids Lineup
Fusion TIFF FileAmazon’s Lovefilm has inked a series of deals that bolsters its lineup of children’s programming. The pacts are with HIT Entertainment, for Thomas & Friends, Bob The Builder, Pingu and others, and Ludorum (Chuggington). The deals feature some exclusive special episodes unavailable to stream anywhere else and also include renewals of animated series including Transylvanian Pet Shop, He-Man And The Masters of the Universe, and Noddy in Toyland.

Cast Announced For Sky 1 HD’s Real-Time Drama ‘Critical’
Lennie James will lead the cast of Sky 1 HD’s real-time medical drama Critical. Also joining the ensemble are Glen Boyle, Catherine Walker, Claire Skinner and Kimberley Nixon. Each episode of the series created by Jed Mercurio will feature one story, in one place, in one hour – the most life-threatening hour of a patient’s treatment.  The 13-episode drama will be produced by Hat Trick Productions.
