Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl), Beth Riesgraf (Leverage), Demetrius Grosse (Justified) and Lauren Stamile (Burn Notice) will co-star opposite Jason O’Mara in USA Network‘s pilot Complications, from Burn Notice creator Matt Nix and Fox TV Studios. The project centers on John Ellis (O’Mara), a disillusioned suburban ER doctor who finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy’s life and killing one of his attackers. When he learns the boy is still marked for death, he finds himself compelled to save him at any cost, and discovers that his life and his outlook on medicine may never be the same.Szhor, repped by ICM Partners, Mosaic, and Bloom Hergott, will play Gretchen, an ER nurse at Samaritan Hospital. Pretty and whip-smart with an ironic smile and penetrating eyes, she’s a good nurse, but a bit of a dark soul. When Ellis comes to her for help saving a patient — which requires violating hospital policy and her professional ethics — she readily agrees, revealing that she has more secrets than anyone knew. Riesgraf, repped by UTA, Silver Lining and Ken Richman & Jason Hendler, will play Samantha Ellis, John Ellis’ wife — an attractive, intelligent lawyer who is trying her best to keep her family, her career and herself together after losing her daughter to cancer. Grosse will play Dan Brennan, a fellow doctor at Samaritan, a skillful and dedicated physician, and the closest thing John has to a friend. Stamile, who played CIA pitbull Agent Pearce on Nix’s Burn Notice, is playing Bridget, an excellent doctor who tends to take out her frustration with life in the ER on patients and colleagues. Irritated by Ellis’ overly sympathetic approach toward his patients, she often takes him to task for coddling them — especially those she feels are abusing the ER. However, she soon learns that her lack of empathy can be just as dangerous.
