EXCLUSIVE: Alex Winter is staying online. Coming off Downloaded, this year’s documentary about the rise and fall of Napster, the Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure co-star is looking to direct a film about virtual currency and the dark side of the Internet. The helmer is teaming with Bond360 founder Marc Schiller – with whom he worked on Downloaded — and producer Glen Zipper (Undefeated) on Deep Web: The Untold Story Of Bitcoin And Silk Road. Winter will be taking part of the docu from the headline-grabbing arrest last month of Ross William Ubricht, the so-called “Dread Pirate Roberts” and founder of black market website Silk Road. “The true story of Bitcoin has all the twists and turns of a cyberpunk thriller,” the team said in a statement. “Through Bitcoin we will enter the secret world of Silk Road as we follow a group of computer hackers creating a ‘dark web,’ which has led to the rise of a new class of cyber drug lords that’s currently playing out in headlines around the world.” True to the topic, the trio plans to use Kickstarter to fund the project as well as allowing people to contribute using Bitcoin, the fast-growing and unregulated digital currency. Winter is repped by APA, Russell Hollander, and Jackie Eckhouse at Sloss Eckhouse
