Mark Burnett’s One Three Media has closed a deal to distribute TBS’ upcoming CeeLo’s Goodie Life, the reality series that will feature musician, producer and The Voice co-host CeeLo Green. In a 10-year, multi-platform agreement, One Three Media will distribute the show globally across all platforms. It airs next year on TBS and follows Green as he tackles his packed schedule of producing, recording and performing, and also looks at the creative partnership with his longtime best friends — Big Gipp, Khujo and T-Mo — as they prepare to revive their iconic hip-hop group Goodie Mob. One Three Media will start offering the show at MipTV in April. CeeLo’s Goodie Life, which is a working title, is produced by Emerald TV Productions, LLC and Rogue Atlas. TBS has ordered six episodes for a 2014 premiere.
FremantleMedia International has inked a multi-year digital deal with Youku China to distribute premium entertainment and drama content to online audiences. More than 200 hours of programming will be available on Youku in the first year including the recently launched Total Black Out USA, The X Factor USA Season 3, America’s Got Talent Season 8, Project Runway Season 11, Celebrity Apprentice Season 6 and American Idol Season 13. It has also acquired the high-end scripted series centered around a contract killer (with a twist) and starring Chloe Sevigny, Hit And Miss, along with the period dramas The Crimson Petal And The White and Fingersmith.
Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. is proving to be a hit at home and scoring in myriad foreign countries. Disney Media Distribution said today that it has locked deals for the show in 155 overseas territories including the UK (Channel 4), Sweden (Kanal 5), Norway (Viasat 4), Turkey (Digiturk), Israel (Yes), Latin America (Sony Entertainment Television/Canal Sony), India (Star World Premiere), Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, Taiwan (Fox International Channels), Singapore (Mediacorp), and VOD platforms (Sohu, LeTV, iQiyi, Tencent and Tudou) in China. The show was the biggest drama launch in the UK since 2009 when it bowed recently. Running as close to day-and-date as possible, episodes are being made available to distributors who show the English language version within 24 hours of the U.S. ariring. The dubbed version is ready 14 days after airing. Disney Media Distribution also says it’s going Nollywood with a local Nigerian production of Desperate Housewives. The series will be known as Desperate Housewives Africa and will be co-produced by EbonyLife TV and Disney. It will closely follow the U.S. format and storylines, but with a uniquely Nigerian flavor. It starts airing in summer 2014.
Scripps Networks’ Food Network UK has reached a content deal with Facebook which allows it to use Facebook’s application programming interfaces (APIs) to display conversations from the social network during broadcasts. Food Network UK will use the APIs to pull in real-time comments that fit with its slate of new programming. several weeks ago, Facebook announced the initial Beta of two new APIs to make it easier for content producers to integrate public conversations on Facebook into their shows.
Keshet International has notched another local format deal for its hot property, Rising Star. France’s M6 has acquired rights to the interactive talent competition that incorporates real-time voting by viewers via a free app and is one of the hottest shows at this market. The original Israeli version is currently airing live following its record breaking debut last month with a 49.4% share.
LoveFilm and Tandem Communications have pacted to bring international crime drama Crossing Lines to the UK. As of October 25th, LoveFilm will exclusively make the series available to customers for streaming. The show premiered in primetime on NBC in the U.S. in June and a second season recently began production. LoveFilm also acquired S2 of the Edward Allen Bernero-created show. Netflix rival Lovefilm has been making moves towards bringing new premium series to the UK; it most recently signed BBC America’s Copper.
Fawlty Towers meets The Muppets? The BBC’s CBeebies and Sesame Workshop are coming together to co-produce The Furchester. In a cross-pond transfer, the new show will star Elmo and Cookie Monster as part of a close-knit family of cheerfully incompetent monsters who own and operate an ‘almost’ world-class hotel. The proprietors of The Furchester are Funella Furchester, her beleaguered husband, Furgus Fuzz, and their daughter, the unflappable Phoebe Furchester-Fuzz. Staffers include Elmo as Phoebe’s cousin; Cookie Monster, who’ll pull duty as a waiter; and Isabel, a furry creature with a bell on top. CBeebies and Sesame Workshop say the aim of the 52×11’ show is to promote and build creative problem-solving skills for its young viewers. It goes into production early in 2014. FremantleMedia France has acquired rights for a local version of Red Arrow International’s House Rules. The hot reality series features six couples vying to have their entire mortgage paid off. Each week one couple hands over the keys of their own home to their competitors who do a complete renovation in seven days while trying to stick to a list of dos and don’ts. Pros and the homeowners judge the results and the winners get the payday. Originally produced by Australia’s Seven Network, the show saw its ratings rise 88% during the first season of its run in Oz. A second season is currently in production.
Sony Pictures Television has inked deals with Germany’s VOX and Spain’s TVE for homegrown takes on budding entrepreneur show Dragons’ Den. That takes the total of local versions to 24 internationally. The U.S. incarnation, Shark Tank, recently returned to ABC for its 5th season. SPT Productions Germany will produce Die Höhle Des Löwen (Lions’ Den) starting in January and Spain’s Pulso TV will produce its version for TVE. Dragons’ Den was created by NTV and is distributed internationally by SPT.
RTÉ Global, the sales and distribution division of Irish public broadcaster RTÉ Television, has signed with CAA for exclusive representation of all of its non-scripted formats in the U.S. The newly re-branded commercial arm – formerly RTÉ Television Sales – is headed by Dermot Horan. The company’s Format Farm initiative has given rise to song-writing talent search show The Hit while creating a development hub for in-house concepts. RTÉ Global’s other recent successes include Dublin-based gangster series Love/Hate, which airs on Channel 5 in the UK, and missing persons drama Amber, due on BBC 4 next year. It also co-produces smash comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys.
Lionsgate has appointed Faruk Alatan and Gabriella Ballabio as its exclusive sales agents in Italy. The duo will represent Lionsgate’s current roster of 30 shows along with all new series going forward including the recently-announced four-hour scripted mini Houdini. Lionsgate is in Cannes this week with the Adrien Brody-starrer that’s just starting production and traces the arc of Houdini’s life from desperate poverty to worldwide fame. It’s co-produced for the History Channel by Lionsgate and A+E Studios.
