EXCLUSIVE: Former West Wing star Rob Lowe has reunited with the acclaimed drama’s co-executive producer Kevin Falls for a new ABC drama project informed by Lowe’s years growing up in Malibu. Co-created by Lowe and Falls, The Point centers on a single mother and her two teenagers who move from Indiana to Malibu in the summer of 1976. The Byrd family must navigate the cross currents of colorful personalities, power land grabs, dead friends and lovers, cheating hearts, and seismic cultural changes that will transform Malibu from a quirky middle-class beach town to the iconic coastal destination of today’s rich and famous. As depicted in Lowe’s bestselling 2011 memoir Stories I Only Tell My Friends, the actor grew up in Ohio before moving to Malibu’s Point Dume area with his mom and brother when he was a teenager. Falls will write the project for Sony Pictures TV where he is under an overall deal. He and Lowe executive produce. WME-repped Falls, who shared in three of West Wing‘s four best drama series Emmys, is the co-creator/executive producer of Sony TV’s TNT dramedy Franklin & Bash, which was recently renewed for a fourth season.

This marks the second sale for Lowe, who is wrapping a four-season run on NBC’s Parks And Recreation. He is set to star and executive produce single-camera workplace comedy The Pro, which has a production commitment at NBC via the actor’s first-look deal with the network. Lowe, repped by WME, Brillstein Entertainment and O’Melveny & Myers, also recently co-starred in HBO’s Emmy-winning Behind The Candelabra and next toplines National Geographic’s Killing Kennedy, airing on November 10.
