UPDATE, 11:45 AM: Today co-host Savannah Guthrie will be sitting down at the White House today to talk Syria with President Barack Obama for NBC News. She’s stepping in for NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams who is unable to travel to Washington due to recent knee surgery, an NBCU spokesperson confirmed. This is the third time Guthrie has interviewed Obama and her first time directly for the nightly news. Williams is the only anchor of the Big 3 not to be interviewing Obama himself. ABC’s Diane Sawyer and CBS’ Scott Pelley are all in DC for their sit-downs with Obama and helming their 6:30 PM broadcasts from there tonight. Randomly picked as is common in these circumstances, NBC will be the first of the broadcast and cable news networks to talk to Obama about potential military action against Syria at 12:55 PM today. Each interview will be 7 minutes long. CNN’s Wolf Blitzer will go second followed by CBS’ Pelley, Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace, Sawyer and PBS’ Gwen Ifill. FNC and CNN plan to air their interviews with Obama at 6 PM ET when the agreed upon embargo ends as does PBS NewsHour.
