BAFTA Unveils First Breakthrough Brits List For Film, TV, Games
BAFTA and Burberry have selected 17 newcomers who are making their name in film, TV or games for the inaugural BAFTA Breakthrough Brits list. The honorees, selected by a jury of industry experts, are actors Paul Brannigan, James Floyd, Tom Holland, Ade Oyefeso, Chloe Pirrie, and Sharon Rooney; writers/directors Rowan Athale and Zam Salim; writer Dominic Mitchell; game developers Oliver Clarke, Mitu Khandaker and Dan Pearce; game designers Rex Crowle and Sophia George; broadcaster Arthur Williams; and producers Ed Barratt and Nisha Parti. They will be celebrated during a showcase event October 21 at BAFTA headquarters in London.

Report Warns That Piracy Threatens UK’s Creative Industries
A new report praises the UK’s creative industries but warns that their success might be jeopardized by any dilution of intellectual property rights and the failure to tackle online piracy. The Commons Culture Media and Sport Committee also “strongly condemns” the “notable” failure of Google in particular to tackle access of copyright infringing websites through its search engine. The group is calling for, among other things, an intellectual property czar in the UK government, maximum penalties for IP and other government reforms.

Keshet International Unveils New Series And Formats At Mipcom
Keshet International is launches its new slate at Mipcom next month, featuring five new titles including live talent show Rising Star. The competition series is the first format to incorporate real-time voting by viewers via an app that is fully integrated into the show. Other programs include Marathon, a docu-reality format about five people, with no athletic background who come together with the common goal of running a marathon in eight months; Pick A Pocket, a trivia show where prize money is based on the amount of money the contestants on the street happen to have in their wallets; the game show Sure Or Insure; the rom-com series She’s With Me, about the love story between a simple baker and an international model. Keshet also will be selling the formats Girlfri3nds and Deal With It! during the October 7-10 market in Cannes.
