In a very competitive situation with multiple networks bidding, a multi-camera comedy from 30 Rock co-executive producer Matt Hubbard, creator/co-showrunner Tina Fey and co-showrunner Robert Carlock has landed at Fox with a series commitment. The project is set at a women’s college that, for the first time in its history, begins accepting men. It hails from Universal Television where Hubbard, Fey and Carlock are under overall deals, and Fey’s Little Stranger. This marks the second sale for Little Stranger this week. The company, in its first development season under a four-year deal Fey inked with Uni TV last fall, set up a single-camera comedy penned by another former 30 Rock writer-producer, Colleen McGuinness, at NBC. That project Fey also executive produces with Carlock who love working together and share offices in New York. Hubbard is writing the Fox project, which he is executive producing with Fey, Carlock and 3 Arts’ David Miner. The Matt Hubbard project extends Universal TV’s relationship with Fox where the NBC-affiliated studio has two comedy series on the fall schedule, the retuning Mindy Project and newbie Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It also marks the latest major sale for Uni TV at an outside network and extends comedy’s hot streak this selling season, punctuated by a slew of production and put pilot commitments.
Hubbard was on 30 Rock for the series’ entire seven-season run, joining right after the pilot as a co-producer and rising through the ranks to a co-executive producer for the last four seasons. He won an Emmy in 2009 for writing the Reunion episode of the office comedy and also was nominated in the category in 2010 and 2011. Additionally, Hubbard shared in 30 Rock’s best comedy series win in 2009. Hubbard also is collaborating with Fey on the big screen, writing an untitled project for her at Universal TV’s sibling Universal Pictures. Hubbard, repped by UTA and attorney Ken Richman, has multi-camera comedy experience with a stint on the Friends spinoff Joey. Fey is with WME and 3 Arts. Little Stranger’s development is headed by Eric Gurian.
