Here’s the end result of the brouhaha over The Butler — rather, Lee Daniels’ The Butler. The Weinstein Co just released this poster for the Lee Daniels-directed historical drama, out August 16. It stars Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, and David Oyelowo as occupants of the White House during one man’s tenure as butler for eight presidents. Warner Bros had been trying to block Harvey Weinstein from using the title The Butler on the film, claiming it has rights from a 1916 silent comedy short called, well, The Butler. Last week the Title Registration Bureau of the Motion Picture Association of America ruled that TWC could use the word “butler” in a modified title, but all words have to be of same size/prominence and “Lee Daniels” has to be 75% the size of “The Butler.”
