On the heels of a strong May sweep ratings performance, Debmar-Mercury’s syndicated The Wendy Williams Show has been renewed on the Fox TV Stations through the 2016-17 television season. The three-year pickup, which follows the previous two-year deal, will bring Wendy‘s run to eighth seasons. “Fox’s long-term renewal is a testament to the incredible growth the show has experienced this season and the amazing talent of Wendy,” Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus said.

According to Fox, Wendy was the only talk show in all of syndication to post year-to-year growth, leaping 43% to reach a 1.2/8 in the women 25-54 demo. During the recent May sweep, the show doubled in W25-54 rating year-to-year on Fox’s WNYW New York (1.2 rating/9 share to 2.4/16 at 10 AM). Additionally, it rose 58% on FOX’s KTTV Los Angeles airing at 11 AM and 139% on FOX’s WFLD Chicago at 10 AM. The ratings momentum in both local and national ratings for the talk show started with the mid-December expansion of the Wendy fan-favorite “Hot Topics” segment. To keep the momentum going, Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury recently ordered more original episodes of the show for the summer. Wendy also has scored new network affiliates, getting acquired by WJW Cleveland (Local TV/FOX); KPTV Portland, OR (Meredith/FOX); WSOC Charlotte (Cox/ABC); KUSI San Diego (McKinnon); WCMH Columbus (Media General/NBC); WSPA Greenville-Spartanburg (Media General/CBS); WPTV West Palm Beach (Scripps/NBC); WALA Mobile (Lin/FOX); and WLUK Green Bay (Lin/FOX).
