The SXSW Film Festival officially begins Friday, but early deals were brewing ahead of the festivities. Digital distribution specialist GoDigital has nabbed North American rights to The Punk Syndrome, a docu about a Finnish bandSXSW deal comprised of four mentally handicapped musicians that makes its stateside debut Tuesday in Austin. (Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät will play a live show at SXSW on March 15.) “This is a documentary unlike any we’ve seen, telling a story unlike anything we’ve heard”, said GoDigital CEO Logan Mulvey of director Jukka Kärkkainen’s pic, which will hit VOD and digital distribution this summer.

Meanwhile, Fandango just announced a new tool bridging the SXSW Film and Interactive interests here in Austin. “Fanticipation” will combine the online ticketing site’s proprietary data collected from online and mobile users, users’ social media engagement, and advance ticket sales figures to analyze fan interest in new and upcoming releases. The buzz indicator will be implemented into Fandango’s new “Weekend Ticket” movie preview show, which debuts with a SXSW episode on March 14.
