Warner Home Entertainment Ups Nick Macrae To SVP
Warner Bros. has promoted Nick Macrae to SVP business and legal affairs for the Home Entertainment Group. Macrae joined Warner in 1999 and most recently was VP and senior counsel for the Home Entertainment Group covering Europe, the Middle East and Africa. He will continue to be responsible for all aspects of business and legal affairs for the division, negotiating and concluding platform deals, acquiring third party content and advising on issues surrounding home video, digital and video games distribution across the EMEA region.
ITVSGE’s ‘Audience’ To Bow In Germany
ITV Studios Germany has been commissioned by RTL to produce a local version of The Audience. Sold by ITV Studios Global Entertainment, the format was created by indie producer The Garden. In each episode, the show introduces someone with a life-changing decision to make who opens up their lives to 50 ordinary people who follow them for a week and draw on their collective life experience to solve the person’s problem. Die Zuschauer will premiere on March 27 in Germany. News follows recent deals for the format in Norway and Hungary.
Discovery To Rep betty Content
Discovery Enterprises International, the distribution and licensing arm of Discovery Communications, has taken over representation of programming from UK production company betty. The new set-up commences at April’s MipTV market. Part of Discovery Networks International since late 2011, betty’s formats and series include The Undateables, The Food Hospital and the upcoming Bear Grylls: Ultimate Survivors. DEI will acquire the rights to represent about 200 hours of betty content, including a back catalog of 173 hours; all current and future DNI commissions and the first-window rights outside the UK for co-productions with UK-based broadcasters and formats.
‘Young Doctor’s Notebook’ Sells At BBCWW Showcase
Rights for Big Talk drama A Young Doctor’s Notebook starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe has sold to Germany (RTL Passion), Russia (Ren TV), Spain (Wuaki.tv), Israel (Yes), Turkey (Dogus Yayin) and Latin America (HBO) at the BBC Worldwide Showcase currently under way in Liverpool. Based on semi-autobiographical short stories by Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov, the four-part series debuted in December in the UK on Sky Arts and is the channel’s highest performing series to date. There’s no U.S. date or broadcaster so far.
Shine International & Fox International Channels Sign Global Deal For ‘The Bridge’
Shine International and Fox International Channels have struck a global deal for The Bridge. It gives FIC first-window pay broadcast rights across the group’s international footprint, and enters the entities into a co-financing partnership. A co-production of Shine America and FX Productions, The Bridge is set to premiere across FIC’s entertainment channel portfolio of 200 Pay-TV networks to audiences in 120 countries in Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa following the series launch on FX in July 2013. Starring Demián Bichir and Diane Kruger, The Bridge is set on the border between El Paso and Juarez and centers on two detectives, one from the U.S. and one from Mexico, who must work together to hunt down a serial killer operating on both sides of the U.S.-Mexican border. Executive Producers Meredith Stiehm (Homeland) and Elwood Reid adapted The Bridge for American television from the international hit series Bron. Shine America’s Carolyn G. Bernstein and Filmlance’s Lars Blomgren are executive producers.
