Turner’s major expansion into unscripted series continues. After TNT greenlighted two new reality series in the past two days, sibling TBS today also picked up two new shows: Deal With It, executive produced by Deal Or No Deal alum Howie Mandel, and Trust Me, I’m a Game Show Host, executive produced by Mark Burnett, the hottest reality producer at the moment with The Voice, Survivor, Shark Tank and Celebrity Apprentice. Trust Me was originally ordered to pilot by ABC in 2010. Both series are slated to premiere on TBS in late 2013.
Deal With It, which has received a six-episode order, is a hidden-camera ambush show based on a series by Keshet Broadcasting and United Studios. In the series, unsuspecting members of the public are secretly dared to pull a prank on their unwitting companions with absolutely no time to prepare. If they agree to participate, they must obey all instructions given through an earpiece from a secret control room nearby. With the opportunity to prank their way to cash and prizes, these everyday people will be shown no mercy as they are tasked with pulling off some of the most ridiculous behavior ever caught on hidden camera. Deal With It is produced by Mandel’s Alevy Productions, Roy Bank’s Banca Studio and Keshet (Homeland), in association with Lionsgate Television where Bank is based. Mandel (Deal Oor No Deal), Mike Marks and Bank (It’s Worth What?) serve as executive producers.
Trust Me, I’m A Game Show Host, which has received a 10-episod order, is a comedic game show in which two hosts each present the single contestant with a different answer to the same question. One host gives the correct answer, while the other lies and gives an incorrect answer. The contestant must then choose the right answer to move on in the game. This is the first game show where two hosts duel to deceive contestants. The players who prove themselves to be super-human lie detectors will go home with a pocketful of cash. Trust Me, I’m a Game Show Host is produced by Burnett’s joint venture with Hearst, One Three Media, and the London-based Monkey. Burnett and Monkey founders Will MacDonald and David Granger (Made in Chelsea) serve as executive producers.
TBS is kicking off its 2013 foray into reality series with the January 17 debut of King Of The Nerds.
