Paul Giamatti Spider-Man RhinoMarc Webb‘s slinging more new additions to his Amazing Spider-Man 2 cast. Paul Giamatti is in talks to play comic book baddie The Rhino opposite returning stars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in the Spidey sequel, which is slated to begin filming in February. Also in talks is Felicity Jones, whose role has not yet been revealed. Giamatti and Jones join previously announced cast additions Jamie Foxx as Electro, Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane, and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn; Sally Field as Aunt May and Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben will also return for Columbia’s May 2, 2014 tentpole.

Introduced to Marvel comics lore in a 1966 edition of The Amazing Spider-Man, Rhino was a dim Soviet mafia bruiser who underwent a scientific procedure that bonded super strong armor to his body. The character popped up last year in the official Amazing Spider-Man movie tie-in video game, voiced by Fred Tatasciore. Giamatti took to the late night circuit two years ago talking up his love for the character. “He would run at stuff real fast and smash into it,” he enthused on Conan. “I think I would be the best Rhino possible.”

Giamatti most recently appeared in Rock Of Ages, David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, and Don Coscarelli’s John Dies At The End, and is currently filming Parkland with a busy 2013 ahead (Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave, the Walt Disney pic Saving Mr. Banks, Almost Christmas opposite Paul Russ, and Romeo And Juliet with Hailee Steinfeld). He is repped by UTA and Kipperman Management.

Jones last week followed her 2011 Paramount Vantage romance Like Crazy with the Sundance pic Breathe In, which reunites her with director Drake Doremus. She is repped by WME and Peikoff Law.
