Comedy Central‘s head of original programming and production Kent Alterman is getting a president title. Alteman has been promoted to President, Content Development & Original Programming. He will continue to be based in Santa Monica and report to Comedy Central president Michele Ganeless. In his previous role as EVP and head of original programming and production, Alterman oversaw the development and day-to-day operations of all original programming on Comedy Central’s linear channel. Now he is adding the channel’s website to his purview, overseeing the development and production of original content across all platforms. Alterman plans to use the Web as a “digital marketing extension (of Comedy Central’s existing shows) to engage viewers with original content.” Additionally, he plans to boost the development of original digital programming, some of which could migrate to TV as traditional series. Speaking of the linear channel, in the next six months Comedy Central will launch more original content than any other time in the network’s history, Alteman said.
“In consolidating all content development under Kent’s direction, Comedy Central is breaking the wall between linear, digital and social development, with a strategic vision that great content is great content, no matter what platform,” said Ganeless. Deadpanned Alterman in his usual style: “I couldn’t be more excited to continue my relationship with Comedy Central. I couldn’t be less excited either. I really feel I have the perfect level of excitement for this job.”
