Image Entertainment has acquired all U.S. rights from Content Media to The Numbers Station, starring John Cusack and Malin Akerman and directed by Kasper Barfoed. The deal came as the first day of the American Film Market kicked off in Santa Monica. Image is planning a first-quarter 2013 theatrical release for the action thriller, which is premiering at AFM. Written by F. Scott Frazier, the film stars Cusack as Emerson, a disgraced former black ops agent who is tasked with a dead-end job protecting Katherine (Akerman), the code operator for a small CIA broadcast station in a barren region. When a car bomb outside the station signals an ambush, the pair is forced to take refuge in the station and the truth becomes their priority if they want to make it out alive. ….
Exclusive Media has sold its Liam Neeson-starring thriller A Walk Among The Tombstones to several overseas territories in including Alliance for Canada, UK (Momentum) and Spain (Aurum). Production is set to start in February 2013 on location in New York City. Universal is releasing in the U.S. Written and to be directed by Scott Frank, the film is based on the Matt Scudder books series written by Lawrence Block…..
Anchor Bay Films announced the pick-up of multiple territorial rights including North America, UK and Australia to the horror film No One Lives from Pathé International. The film was co-produced by WWE Studios and Pathé and helmed by Ryuhei Kitamura (The Midnight Meat Train). AFM and AFI Fest announced that they are partnering on an initiative that will see three festival pics looking for international sales reps play during a market-hosted screening program November 6. The pics are Antonio Mendez Esparza’s Here And There; Nairobi Half Life, from Kenyan director David Tosh Gitonga; and Sean Baker’s indie drama Starlet. A total of 27 AFI Fest films will screen at this year’s AFM, which runs through November 7. AFI Fest 2012 kicks off tomorrow with the opening-night gala film Hitchcock and closes November 8 with Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln….
Shout! Factory and SC Films International have entered into an exclusive multi-picture deal to distribute UK gore-drenched comedy feature Cockneys Vs. Zombies in the U.S. and Canada, and the suspense thriller Tower Block in the U.S. Both features are written by James Moran. The Global Media Group has added the comedy Chez Upshaw to its film slate. The comedy stars Kevin Pollak and Ileana Douglas as a married couple that owns a failing bed and breakfast but turn their luck around by getting into the business of assisted suicides. Bruce Mason wrote and directed, and Marvin Acuna, Bruce Mason, Tina Palvides and Pollak produce. The film is repped by Tyler Konney at Taylor & Dodge….
Rainstorm Entertainment has picked up the rights to and will produce the documentary It’s So Easy And Other Lies, based on the autobiography of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan. Christopher Duddy (Cougar Club) will direct and produce with McKagan and Rainstorm’s Steven G. Kaplan. A start date is scheduled for later this year. The book was a bestseller last year and is the story of McKagen’s rise to the pinnacle of fame and fortune, his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction, his personal crash and burn, and his transformation to sobriety and eventual redemption.
