NBC is back in business with Ellen DeGeneres, buying a single-camera comedy from her company, A Very Good Production, and Warner Bros. TV. The untitled project is being written by Lauren Pomerantz, senior writer for Degeneres’ syndicated daytime talk show. The two are exec producing. The comedy centers on a successful, proudly independent 32-year-old woman who is convinced she just doomed herself to die alone when she notices she’s listed as “a single woman” on the paperwork for the house she’s about to close on. Last season, NBC bought the DeGeneres-produced comedy The Smart One in a bidding war. In a turnaround, the project was later picked up to pilot by ABC. This is the second sale for A Very Good Production this season. It also has a comedy at Fox.
CBS has bought All In, a multi-camera comedy from CBS TV Studios. It is written by Robia Rashid, co-exec producer on another CBS/CBS Studios multi-cam comedy, midseason series Friend Me. It centers on a young couple that moves across the country together to start a new life after only dating a few months – based on the experience she and her husband had a few years ago moving from NYC to LA. WME-repped Rashid’s credits also include How I Met Your Mother and Will & Grace.
