NBCUniversal Cleared To Move Forward On Expansion
The Los Angeles City Planning Commission has given the OK for NBCUniversal to move to the next step in the approval process for a long-planned expansion at its San Fernando Valley site. The recommendation Thursday came after the company agreed to commit $3.3 million for a bike path along the LA River, a key demand by environmentalists and others opposed to the company’s original expansion plan, the LA Times reports. In July, NBCUniversal, facing strong neighborhood opposition, dropped a $3 billion plan for a 3,000-unit combination residential/retail complex on the studio’s backlot. The plan must get final approval from the LA City Council and LA County Board of Supervisors.
