London, 28th March 2012 – Through an agreement announced today by Disney UK & Ireland and Google, a selection of movies from Disney’s portfolio have become available for rent on YouTube and Google Play in the UK.
This is Disney and Google’s first content agreement in the region, and means that movie fans can enjoy a broad selection of titles distributed by Disney, wherever they are. Fans can use Google Play to rent and watch movies on their Android smartphones and tablets, and they can use YouTube (www.youtube.com) or the Google Play website (play.google.com) to rent and watch movies on their computers. Once viewers rent a movie on Google Play or YouTube, they can watch that rental film on any device or computer they are logged into during the rental period.
Available films will include recent hits such as “Real Steel” and “Fright Night”, action-packed blockbusters including “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” and “Con Air”, to timeless favourites such as “Bedknobs and Broomsticks”. Prices start from £2.49 SD / £3.49 HD per movie. Viewers will have 30 days to begin watching their rental, and 48 hours to finish.
“This launch will offer UK viewers further choice and flexibility in how they enjoy our must-see films at home or on the move – all in a hassle-free cloud system. We’re looking forward to working with Google to launch a broad range of titles to suit audiences of all ages and tastes,” said Catherine Powell, senior vice president / general manager, Media Distribution, The Walt Disney Company EMEA.
YouTube is the world’s largest online video community, allowing millions of people to discover, watch, and share original videos. YouTube provides a forum for people to connect, inform, and inspire others across the globe and acts as a distribution platform for original-content creators and advertisers large and small. YouTube, LLC, is based in San Bruno, California, and is a subsidiary of Google Inc.
Google Play (play.google.com) is a digital entertainment destination where you can find, enjoy and share your favourite movies, books and apps on the web and on your Android phone or tablet. Google Play is entirely cloud-based so all movies, books and apps are stored online, always available, and you never have to worry about losing them or moving them again.
