Molly Smith’s (P.S. I Love You) new production outfit will develop and produce theatrical motion pictures and television properties in association with Warner Bros.based Alcon Entertainment in a “four-year discretionary first-look deal.” Belle Pictures’ first project is an adaptation of The Bootlegger’s Boy, based on football coach Barry Switzer’s memoir, which looks at his life and years coaching at Oklahoma University and the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Smith remains partners with Hilary Swank in their production company 2S Films.
LOS ANGELES, CA, MARCH 8, 2012 – Producer Molly Smith (“P.S. I Love You,” “The Blind Side”) has formed Belle Pictures, a production banner to develop and produce theatrical motion pictures and television properties in association with Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment in a new four-year discretionary first-look deal, it was announced by Smith and Alcon Co-Founders and Co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
Allison Rayne has been tapped VP of Development at Belle Pictures, Jon Schumacher will serve as Development Executive and Emma Branch as Production Executive.
Belle Pictures is actively developing a slate of projects, the first being an adaptation of “The Bootlegger’s Boy,” legendary football coach Barry Switzer’s memoir, which looks at his life and years coaching at Oklahoma University and the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Patrick Massett and John Zinmann (“Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” “Friday Night Lights”) are in negotiations to pen the adaptation. Smith is producing with Thad and Trent Luckinbill, the brothers who brought the project to the Company. Alcon will finance the film.
Massett and Zinmann are repped by CAA and Industry Entertainment. Thad Luckinbill is repped by Brillstein Entertainment.
Along with Erwin Stoff and Alcon’s Kosove and Johnson, Smith is currently producing “Beautiful Creatures,” a supernatural love story based on the New York Times bestselling novel of the same name by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, starring Viola Davis, Emma Thompson, Emmy Rossum, Thomas Mann, Jack O’Connell and Alice Englert under the Belle Pictures banner.
Smith produced the hit feature “P.S. I Love You,” starring Swank and Gerard Butler and served as an executive producer on the Oscar-nominated hit film “The Blind Side,” which she brought to Alcon. She served as a production executive at Alcon prior to forming 2S Films and producing her first feature.
Smith remains partners with Hilary Swank in the production shingle 2S Films.
