EXCLUSIVE: ICM has signed a deal to rep former Eurythmics leader Dave Stewart. Along with manager Dave Kaplan Management Inc and Surfdog Entertainment, the agency will seek opportunities for Stewart’s Hollywood-based idea factory, Weapons of Mass Entertainment. They will work on Stewart’s initiatives in film, television, music, theater, publications, new media and branding.
Though best known for his work as a musician, Stewart is also the creator and an executive producer on the pilot Malibu Country. starring Reba McEntire and Lily Tomlin which was recently picked up by ABC. Stewart also wrote all the songs with Glen Ballard for the stage musical adaptation of Ghost, which opened in London last year and bows on Broadway April 23rd. Earlier this month, Cinedigm signed a deal with Stewart and his company to produce a series of music-driven documentary features, which will be programmed in cinemas across the U.S. He also recently put out the album SuperHeavy, with the band he formed with Mick Jagger. He has also cowritten songs and produced albums for the likes of Katy Perry, Jagger, No Doubt and Bono.
Stewart’s written books, created graphic novels (his Zombie Broadway is in development for a feature that will be directed by Jonas Akerlund), and Stewart has directed short films. He also founded a multimedia creative hub along with Paul Allen called The Hospital, and is as just as active on the philanthropic front.
