EXCLUSIVE: WME has just signed French director Gilles Paquet-Brenner, helmer of the critically acclaimed Sarah’s Key. That film, an adaptation of the Tatiana de Rosnay novel, was released by the Weinstein Company and did strong overseas business. Paquet-Brenner’s first feature, Pretty Things, garnered Marion Cotillard a César nomination. Gilles is currently casting his next film, Dark Places, an adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s bestselling novel. This was a competitive signing, as Paquet-Brenner is part of the new wave of French directors which includes Michel Hazanavicius and Guillaume Canet. Paquet-Brenner is managed by the Safran Company and repped in the UK by Independent.
