EXCLUSIVE: Kat Coiro has been set to direct Here Lies Bridget, an adaptation of the Paige Harbison novel. Galgos Entertainment is putting the project together. Coiro directed Life Happens, which stars Kate Bosworth, Rachel Bilson and Krysten Ritter. That film premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and opens in theaters March 30, 2012.  Coiro is currently finishing up post on her second feature, While We Were Here. After narcissistic mean girl Bridget Duke crashes her car and ends up in limbo, she must confront the people she has bullied, degraded and belittled, all of whom must decide if she goes to heaven or hell. The book offers insight into the wild thoughts and actions of privileged teens.

Here Lies Bridget is a profound coming of age story wrapped in the glossy packaging of a teen comedy–think an edgy It’s A Wonderful Life meets Mean Girls,” Coiro said. “The film is deceptively deep, genre-bending, surprising and entertaining.” The script was written by Leah Rachel, who recently sold her original pilot STARF*CKERS to HBO with Stephen Levinson producing, and BAMFS to ABC. Galgos Entertainment’s Russell Nuce and Mark Bozek, and Mott Street Picture’s Alex Sagalchik are producing Here Lies Bridget. Casting is underway. Galgos is going into production with Shoe Addicts Anonymous, an adaptation of the novel by Paige Harbison’s mother, Beth. Halle Berry will star. Preferred Content’s Kevin Iwashina made the deal. Coiro’s repped by WME and Rachel by WME and Anonymous Content.
