'Dog Whisperer's Cesar Millan Shopping New Dog Series

EXCLUSIVE: Following a successful launch of Dog Whisperer star Cesar Millan’s new Spanish-language show El Lider de la Manada in Spain, an English-language version of the show is being shopped to the U.S. networks. El Lider de la Manada, translated as The Leader Of The Pack, premiered on Spain’s Cuatro network earlier this month to more than 1.4 million viewers, about 5-times the average viewership for The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on the same network. (The Dog Whisperer airs in more than 109 countries.) The strong Spanish launch fast-tracked an English-language version, which is eyed to begin shooting 12 episodes in April for a December 2012 premiere on an US network. No network has been locked in yet, but there has been interest in the project, which is being shopped by WME. The agency signed Millan last year and also reps PowWow Media, which produces the show with Notro TV. Nat Geo Wild would be a natural choice as it airs The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan whose seventh season kicks on on Jan. 7. Each episode of El Lider de la Manada features dog expert Millan rehabilitating a homeless or abandoned dog and matching it with one of three contestants who compete to provide the dog with the best home. In addition to The Leader Of The Pack, which Millan will host and executive produce, he is also currently developing two TV specials to air in the U.S. next year.
