UPDATE BELOW: According to Sony Pictures, a minor contretemps developed Friday night before the studio’s Spider-Man panel at Comic-Con because Rhys Ifans wanted to smoke backstage. Sony says: “It was a minor incident involving a security guard and smoking backstage. Police were called. But I was told Rhys was not arrested and was not handcuffed by the police. I am told he was given a
ticket citation.” Ifans then was introduced at the panel as the new Spider-Man villain Lizard. If Sony changes its story to me, I’ll let you know but TheCrap is a notoriously inaccurate website. In the meantime I’m sure people will say this reeks of a publicity stunt. UPDATE: Sony Pictures just issued this statement to me: “Rhys Ifans was detained by Comic-Con security after a brief incident backstage prior to and immediately following The Amazing Spider-Man panel. Police were notified and a citation was issued to Mr. Ifans who deeply regrets this incident.”
