As an insider tells me, “He’s a back office guy who wants a bigger role. He wants to take the next step but [Endeavor’s] Jason Lublin is the COO. So there’s nowhere for him to grow.” A partner at Deloitte before he went to the William Morris agency, Mike Dates was in charge of all that Morris/Endeavor merging number-crunching. He’s staying until the end of the month and then consulting as needed while he works with headhunters. This was the WME email to staffers today:
We want to let all of you know that after nearly 13 years, Mike Dates has decided to leave WME. We would like to thank Mike not only for his many years of service and leadership, but also for his crucial role and contributions in transitioning the two companies into one after the merger. Mike has indicated he is interested in pursuing opportunities beyond a CFO role and will be transitioning his responsibilities in the coming weeks. Mike has been a great colleague and friend, and we wish him the best.
