Theano Apostolou, the AMC publicist who played a central role in steering the network through its fledgling days in original programming and lent a big hand to helping to put Mad Men, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead onto the television map, has been hired away by Starz Entertainment as a new SVP/corporate communications and programming publicity. She’ll be based in Los Angeles and spearhead the network’s communications strategies, program publicity and external affairs. Apostolou will report to Starz president and COO Bill Myers. She replaces Tom Southwick as lead communications exec at the company following Southwick’s retirement last year. In her previous post at AMC, Apostolou served as senior VP publicity, talent relations and promotional events, having a major role in shepherding AMC from a movie rerun service to an Emmy-winning leader in original drama series over the past four years.
