EXCLUSIVE: DreamWorks, which partnered with Paramount and Spyglass on the Friday opener Dinner For Schmucks, is back in business with one of the film’s stars, Zach Galifianakis. DreamWorks has made a preemptive purchase of Reply All, a laffer pitch that will be written as a star vehicle for Galifianakis, who’ll produce. Phil Johnston will write the comedy, and will be executive producer. Johnston most recently scripted Cedar Rapids, the just completed Miguel Arteta-directed comedy for For Searchlight. Reply All was pitched around town early this week and DreamWorks just took it off the table.
Galifianakis will play a guy who hits the “reply all” button to an indiscreet e-mail, and then has to deal with the repercussions.
Post-Schmucks, Galifianakis will next be seen starring with the Focus comedy It’s Kind of a Funny Story, and then with Robert Downey Jr. in the Todd Phillips-directed Due Date, and he returns with Phillips to reprise his breakthrough role in the sequel to The Hangover. Galifianakis is repped by CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
