EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Lillard and Gillian Vigman will play the two leads in the CMT comedy pilot The Hard Life. The project, written and executive produced by Bill Diamond (Murphy Brown), is a single-camera half-hour that explores the contrast of modern parenting vs. old school parenting. It centers on parents Bobby (Lillard) and Gina (Vigman). Bobby is charming and witty and tries to be a good father and a good husband but finds it hard to be both things at the same time. Gina is a caring, well-intentioned but tightly-wound former career woman-turned-full-time mom who is overprotective of her girls. Lillard, who appears in the upcoming movie Descendants, is with Paradigm; Vigman (Hangover) also will recur on the upcoming CBS drama Defenders as star Belushi’s wife. She is with APA and Brillstein.
With the casting of Lillard and Vigman, CMT has set the leads on its four comedy pilots, which mark the network’s first push in scripted TV. Working Class stars Melissa Peterman, the untitled David Litt project aka Regular Joe stars Tom Arnold, Liza Snyder, Ed Asner and Debra Mooney and 30 Percent stars Vigman’s co-star on Sons & Daughters Fred Goss and Sarah Rafferty.
