Jace Alexander has come on board to direct SyFy’s 90-minute action-adventure pilot Three Inches, and Lost director-producer Jack Bender has signed on to helm another SyFy 90-minute action-adventure pilot, Alphas.
Both projects revolve around people with special abilities. Three Inches, from Fox TV Studios, Landscape Entertainment and writer Harley Peyton, centers on an underachiever who develops a unique “super” power after being struck by lightning — the ability to move any object by 3 inches using his mind – and is soon recruited by a covert team of superheroes. Alphas, from BermanBraun and writers Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, follows a team of ordinary citizens who possess extraordinary and unusual mental skills.
This marks the fourth consecutive pilot for an NBC Uni cable network directed by Alexander. The previous 3, USA’s Burn Notice and Royal Pains and SyFy’s Warehouse 13, all went on to spawn successful series. He most recently directed the ABC pilot Edgar Floats, which is still in contention at the network with an order for six additional scripts. Bender just wrapped a six-year stint as an executive producer and director on Lost by helming the series’ finale.
