National Board of Review of Motion Pictures announced its awards today. For years the NBR was considered out to lunch because of its membership and its selections. But Hollywood majors and minis now like to point out that the last two years the NBR’s best pucture winner has won the Oscar:
Best Film: Up in the Air (Paramount)
Best Director: Clint Eastwood, Invictus (Warner Bros)
Best Actor(s): George Clooney, Up in the Air; Morgan Freeman, Invictus
Best Actress: Carey Mulligan, An Education (Sony Pictures Classics)
Best Supporting Actor: Woody Harrelson, The Messenger (Oscilloscope Pictures)
Best Supporting Actress: Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air (Paramount)
Best Foreign Language Film: A Prophet (Sony Pictures Classics)
Best Documentary: The Cove (Roadside Attractions)
Best Animated Feature: Up (Disney)
Best Ensemble Cast: It’s Complicated (Universal)
Breakthrough Performance by an Actor: Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker (Summit)
Breakthrough Performance by an Actress: Gabourey Sidibe, Precious (Lionsgate)
Best Original Screenplay: Joel and Ethan Coen, A Serious Man (Focus)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Jason Reitman and Sheldon Turner, Up in the Air (Paramount)
Special Filmmaking Achievement Award: Wes Anderson, The Fantastic Mr. Fox (Fox)
