Charlie Davis, EVP of post-production at CBS Films, passed away on August 4th. His friends say he was in a coma since Saturday following a spider bite last Wednesday. “Truly, truly horrible,” as one of his colleagues emails me. He’d been hired in March and reported directly to CBS Films president Amy Baer.
Also passing away suddenly the same day, screenwriter/producer Blake Snyder died of cardiac arrest. “He was one of the few genuine nice guys out here,” an admirer emailed me. In his 20-year career, he sold dozens of scripts, but he was best known for holding workshops and writing books about screenwriting — Save the Cat! The Last Book on Screenwriting You’ll Ever Need (published in May 2005), its sequel, Save the Cat! Goes to the Movies: The Screenwriter’s Guide to Every Story Ever Told (published in October 2007), and a third book, Save the Cat! Strikes Back: More Trouble for Screenwriters to Get Into… And Out Of (to be published in fall 2009).
