UPDATE: Fox and 19 Entertainment confirmed her departure in a statement: “Paula Abdul has been an important part of the American Idol family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.” Ugh, I refuse to write more about her.
Ohmygawd, however will America survive without this addled and unintelligible vidiot as a judge on AI anymore. The real issue, as I see it, is why in hell Fox kept her on the show for so long (and well past her mental prime). Paula Abdul made her swan-song public on her Twitter account, according to celeb-obsessed TV reports like Extra, saying “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol. I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all being a part of a show that I helped from day1 become an international phenomenon.” The veteran of 8 Idol seasons, who’s been kvetching for weeks now she hasn’t received a new contract for the 9th, added, “What I want to say most is how much I appreciate the undying support and enormous love that you have showered upon me.” Oh, barf.
