Conan’s old Late Night sidekick is returning to The Tonight Show as the announcer, but also to take on sidekick duties by appearing regularly in the comedy sketches. After all, no one expected NBC to come up with actually new ideas for the show’s post-Leno reincarnation starting June 1st. At least Richter is better known this time around, having appeared in more than his fair share of failed primetime series. And he’s certainly harmless on air. But the chemistry might have been better had good guy Conan been paired with a bad boy like creepy Lyle The Intern (played deliciously by Jimmy Simpson) who appears regularly with David Letterman. Together, Andy and Conan are just too angelic-looking for me to stomach. It will be the first time the two have worked together daily since Richter left Late Night With Conan O’Brien nine years ago. O’Brien has remained close pals with Richter since May 2000 when Andy left the show. “We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to The Tonight Show,” O’Brien said. “I’m looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300.” Conan is now getting ready for his new gig, which will have new address (Universal City instead of Burbank) as well as a newly constructed set.
