UPDATE: I’ve confirmed that the director has just signed with Endeavor. Spike Lee’s leaving the William Morris Agency “came completely out of the blue,” a WMA source told me. He’d been a client of Dave Wirtschafter’s for the past 15+ years, and the president notified the agency of the loss this morning. The only reason Lee gave was that he “needed a change,” I’m told. “Dave helped him get his passion project Miracle At St. Anna financed by Disney when no one else wanted it. And his next three movies are set — LA Riots, Time Traveller, and Inside Man 2 — so it wasn’t like he wasn’t working. We feel like we’ve done everything we can for the guy.”
