UPDATE: Agent Risa Shapiro’s longtime client, Oscar winner Jennifer Connelly, is jumping from ICM to CAA. Shapiro will now be her manager.
After 17 years with ICM, agent Risa Shapiro is becoming a manager and producer. She’s joining Melanie Greene of Melanie Greene Management/Productions to form a new company (still unnamed). Greene is the manager of one of Shapiro’s biggest clients, David Duchovny. Shapiro joined ICM in 1991 as a motion picture talent agent after beginning her career in New York at the William Morris Agency before relocating to ICM’s Los Angeles office. She was instrumental in cultivating the careers of Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly (who’s been with the agent since the actress was 14) and Rosie O’Donnell (who was repped by the agent dating back to 1989 when Risa still had to ask Hollywood, “Do you know who Rosie O’Donnell is?” and who left last year to go with Endeavor’s Nancy Josephson), as well as Duchovny and his Californication co-star Natascha McElhone, Amber Valleta, Richard Dreyfus, and Kevin Zegers. I’m told this move has the full cooperation and support of ICM which recognizes that Shapiro wants to change her life. “I am excited about my new business venture with my dear friend, Melanie, and after 17 incredible years, I look forward to working with my colleagues at ICM in a new capacity,” said Shapiro.
