This time around, reporter John Connolly teams up with Vanity Fair writer Bryan Burrough to produce what’s described to me as an “explosive” Pellicano exposé for the magazine’s June issue. It hits newsstands in NY and LA in early May. The piece locks up mid-April, even though the U.S. Attorney’s Office has said it’s bringing more charges in the case this month. (Ah, the joys of working for a monthly…) In 2004, Connolly paired with Howard Blum for a juicy VF article titled “The Pellicano Brief.”
Meanwhile, Connolly claims to have finally secured a publisher for his Pellicano bio book, “The Sin Eater”: Simon & Schuster’s Atria imprint. Connolly says he’s determined to go it alone on this project, with an eye to publishing in 2007. That doesn’t allow for much more reporting time, given the excruciatingly slow pace that the U.S. Attorney’s Office has been rolling out indictments since Pellicano’s office was raided in 2002.
