Shades of Blue and Eyewitness creator Adi Hasak is teaming with Dynamic Television (SyFy’s Van Helsing, Wynona Earp) for a U.S. version of German series Tempel. The project is being developed as a straight-to-series drama under Hasak’s Adi TV Studios banner.

Hasak has written a pilot script and an extensive series bible for the potential eight-episode series. As he did on Eyewitness, Hasak will write or co-write all episodes of the show with JJ Wienkers, who also will serve as a producer. German writer-director Michael Wenning, who introduced the format to Hasak will serve as executive producer. Dynamic Television will produce and handle worldwide distribution if the project is picked up to series. Dynamic’s Daniel March and Klaus Zimmerman will serve as executive producers.

Tempel tells the story of Mark Tempel, an ex-con who struggles to pay the bills working as an elderly care giver. When his family is terrorized by thugs hired to scare working class families into moving out of Los Angeles’ Frogtown neighborhood — Tempel is drawn back into the underground world of cage fighting in order to provide for his family. But what begins as a struggle to replace his daughter’s shattered violin becomes a battle against the evil forces of gentrification.

“In searching for a straight-to-series model, I’ve increasingly found myself partnering with distribution companies who have realized that rather than wait for shows to present themselves at screenings, they must become proactive and develop their own series,” said Hasak. “Dan March, Klaus Zimmerman and their amazing team at Dynamic are a perfect match for the remake of this exceptional character-driven German format – as they are both a production company and a distributor who can help launch the series in both the domestic and–just as importantly–the international markets.”

Hasak is best known for creating NBCs Shades of Blue starring Jennifer Lopez, which is going into its third and final season on NBC. Hasak wrote the pilot script on spec, which landed a straight-to-series order at NBC with Jennifer Lopez attached to star. He also created, executive produced and served as showrunner on USA’s Eyewitness, based on a Norwegian format, which also was ordered straight-to-series.

“Adi is a phenomenal talent and brings an unbridled passion and excitement to this series,” added Daniel March, Managing Partner, Dynamic Television. “Tempel is a deeply emotional character driven drama and a reflection of the real world consequences of gentrification seen thru the eyes of the often unseen victims.”

Hasak is repped by attorneys Patti Felker and Dave Ryan and in Europe by attorneys Christoph Fey and Harro Von Have.
