MTV has unveiled nominations for the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards, and it looks like Oscar Best Picture winner The Shape of Water and Darkest Hour were totally shut out. However, the pop culture phenomenon known as Black Panther clawed its way to the top with seven nominations. On the television side, Netflix’s Stranger Things came out of the upside down to nab a leading six nominations.

The ceremony is set for June 18 at the Barker Hangar in Los Angeles to be hosted by stand-up comedian and Girls Trip breakout Tiffany Haddish (also a nominee this year for Best Comedic Performance). Until last year, the annual ceremony was known as the MTV Movie Awards. Now, the event has gone the Golden Globes route by including television series. And in an effort to challenge the status quo and make sure everyone know this is a “woke” awards show, the ceremony features gender-neutral categories. The awards show is also known for having non-traditional awards like “Best Kiss” and “Best Fight.”

Black Panther is the most nominated overall including in the categories of Best Movie and Best On-Screen Team. Chadwick Boseman, who plays the titular comic book hero in the Disney/Marvel blockbuster, is nominated for Best Performance in a Movie and Best Hero.  Additionally, Letitia Wright was nominated for Scene Stealer category, and Michael B. Jordan was nominated for Best Villain.

The Wakanda action pic isn’t the only Marvel Cinematic Universe pic among the nominees. Thor: Ragnarok and the recent record-breaking Avengers: Infinity War made the list as well. Disney leads all movie studios with 15 noms overall, while Netflix tops the TV networks list with 10.

Stranger Things‘ six noms include for Best Show and Best On-Screen Team. Millie Bobby Brown is nominated for Best Performance in a Show, while Dacre Montgomery received a nod for Scene Stealer.

Other nominees on the TV side include Riverdale, 13 Reasons Why, grown-ish and Game of Thrones.

This year’s ceremony marks the return of Emmy-winning producer-director Joel Gallen. He will executive produce and direct this year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, which he helped create at MTV and produced for 14 years.
