David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman have moved their Mandeville Films from Disney to Universal. The duo is coming off the $300 million-grossing Wonder, the billion-dollar grosser Beauty and the Beast, the Jake Gyllenhaal-starrer Stronger about Boston Marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman, The Fighter and The Muppets. Mandeville is in pre-production on The Aeronauts for Amazon Studios.

Hoberman was at Disney 20 years, first as a top exec before partnering with Lieberman as producer. Disney is so locked in with its silo system, it is hard for lot-based producers there to get slots, which is why they’ve made so many of their movies elsewhere. Universal should provide more opportunity.

Deal was made by production president Peter Cramer and Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley.
