Dinosaurs roamed the earth for millions of years. But the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Hollywood won’t be so fortunate.

After a 22-year run, the ride will close Sept. 3, ending the reign of one of the park’s earliest thrill attractions. That’s the bad news for dinosaur fans. The good news is that an updated dinosaur-themed attraction, called the Jurassic World Ride, will be installed in its place.

Park officials are mum on just what to expect from this new ride, except to promise new dinosaurs that haven’t been seen, enhanced storytelling and scenery, plus new technology.  The current ride takes fans through the Jurassic Park world of the original film. That ride opened three years after the Steven Spielberg blockbuster bowed.

A fifth movie in the Jurassic Park franchise, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, is scheduled for a June release, with a sixth planned for 2021.
