Hulu has made a 10-episode straight-to-series order for Light as a Feather, from AwesomenessTV, Wattpad and Kelsey Grammer’s Grammnet (Girlfriends). The supernatural thriller is based on a story by Zoe Aarsen that has more than 2.9M reads on Wattpad.

Created by Lee Fleming Jr., Light as a Feather follows five teenage girls as they deal with the supernatural fallout stemming from an innocent game of “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board.” When the girls start dying off in the exact way that was predicted, the survivors must figure out why they’re being targeted — and whether the evil force hunting them down is one of their own.

Fleming executive produces and showruns alongside AwesomenessTV’s Jordan Levin, Shelley Zimmerman, Joe Davola and Brett Bouttier; Wattpad’s Aron Levitz and Eric Lehrman; and Grammnet’s Grammer, Tom Russo, Brian Sher and Stella Bulochnikov. Bloodlist’s Kailey Marsh is a co-executive producer. Production is slated to begin in June.

Light as a Feather is a captivating and unique story, with supernatural twists and thrills that readers all over the world have fallen in love with,” said Aron Levitz, Head of Wattpad Studios. “The story is another example of a Wattpad fan favorite that is perfect for adaptation and new life on another platform.”

This is the first Hulu project based on a Wattpad story. In February, Wattpad, Tongal, and CW Seed launched the pilot episode of Cupid’s Match, based on Lauren Palphreyman’s global Wattpad hit. Shows based on Wattpad properties also are in the works at Universal Cable Productions and eOne, among others.

“When I first joined Wattpad, I set out to create something unique, exploring characters and a world where female empowerment, friendship, and supernatural forces come together,” author Aarsen said. “Wattpad is a place where people come together and connect over stories, discussing every twist and cliffhanger, so it was the perfect platform for my story. Teen horror is my passion, so I can’t wait to be able to share Light as a Feather with other horror aficionados on Hulu.”

This is the latest collaboration between AwesomenessTV and Hulu, following horror series Freakish and comedy All Night.

Fleming Jr. is repped by Kailey Marsh Media, UTA, and attorney Ken Richmond. Grammer is repped by UTA.
