When the dust settled on ABC’s new drama series today, all of ABC’s buzzy hourlong pilots had been picked up to series with the exception of False Profits

I hear that the comedic soap, from ABC Studios, is very much alive and remains in priority development. I hear the project is opening a writers room to generate three additional scripts and the cast of the pilot — led by Bellamy Young and Vanessa Williams, who I hear both tested very well — are being extended. False Profits would be in consideration for a midseason pickup.

Meanwhile, all other ABC drama — as well as comedy — pilots that did not get orders yesterday and today are dead.

Written by former Code Black writer-producer Kayla Alpert, False Profits is described as Desperate Housewives meets Glengarry Glen Ross. It follows a team of down-and-out women in suburban Arizona as they fight their way to the top of the cutthroat world of a multi-level marketing cosmetics business.

Alpert executive produces with Jason Reed and former Desperate Housewives exec producer Sabrina Wind via Jason T. Reed Productions. ABC Studios, where Jason T. Reed Prods is under an overall deal, is the studio.
