Clayne Crawford has broken his silence on today’s renewal of Lethal Weapon in a statement via Instagram, in which he did not address directly his ouster and the casting of Seann William Scott in his place.
“To my cast and crew – CONGRATULATIONS on season 3! To the Fans – Thank you for the overwhelming support and love,” said Crawford in a post with an image that featured a somber silhouette of him. “Riggs was a dream role and the experience will live with me forever. My heart is full. Good Luck [next] season!!”
In the wake of the news that Crawford’s Lethal Weapon contract will not be renewed for next season, has also received support from many actors, friends, and fans.
The casting shakeup on the Fox series marked the culmination of the drama surrounding Crowford’s on-set behavior that out the future of the popular action comedy in limbo. The third season was announced today with the return of Damon Wayans and new co-lead Scott who will play a new character that will partner with Murtaugh (Wayans).
Last week’s season finale left the door open for the likely departure of Crawford. The episode — SPOILER ALERT — had Crawford’s Riggs shot in the chest with his life hanging in the balance. The renewal puts the series on a new, fresh track in hopes that it will retain its audience and leave all the off-set drama behind.
