Timothée Chalamet’s big follow-up to his Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name performance must be considered next fall’s Beautiful Boy, co-starring Steve Carrell. But a perhaps less big return happens sooner with Hot Summer Nights, writer/director Elijah Bynum’s coming of age story that has Chalamet playing a shy out-of-towner in Cape Cod who gets tangled up with a local weed dealer (Alex Roe).

The new trailer for Hot Summer Nights signals a stylish, fast-paced and edgy teen thriller. Logline reads: “With a hurricane looming in the wings, tensions rise against a backdrop of drive-ins, arcades, and crashed parties as the stakes (and temperatures) grow ever higher.” Setting looks to be the 1980s.

Hot Summer Nights also stars Maika Monroe (It Follows), along with William Fichtner, Thomas Jane, Emory Cohen and Maia Mitchell.

The film will be available exclusively on DIRECTV June 28, with A24 releasing the film to theaters July 27.
