Two alums from the Harry Potter movie franchise, Natalia Tena and Tom Felton, along with newcomer Sen Mitsuji, are set to topline Origin, YouTube’s upcoming sci-fi thriller series. Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, AVP: Alien vs. Predator) is directing the first two episodes of the show, from The Crown and Outlander producers Left Bank Pictures, Midnight Radio (CBS’ Zoo), CiTVC and Sony Pictures Television International Productions. Nora Arnezeder, Fraser James, Philipp Christopher, Madalyn Horcher, and Siobhán Cullen round out the series regular cast.

Created, written and exec produced by Mika Watkins, the 10-episode series follows a group of strangers who find themselves stranded on a spacecraft bound for a distant planet. The abandoned passengers must work together for survival, but quickly realize that one of them is far from who they claim to be. Tena will play Lana, Felton is Logan, Mitsuji is Shun.

Resilient, tough and great in a crisis, Lana (Tena) quickly becomes a kind of captain to the passengers of Origin. Shun (Mitsuji) also quickly emerges as a natural leader among the passengers, due to his cool head and razor sharp reflexes. Like his Harry Potter character Draco Malfoy, Felton again is playing the group’s chief antagonist. His Logan is an angry young man, who is as much of a threat to himself, as he is to those around him.

Origin also features Adelayo Adedayo, Nina Wadia, Johannes Johannesson, Wil Coban and Tara Fitzgerald. Filming is currently underway in South Africa, with premiere slated for later this year exclusively on YouTube Red.

Origin is a Left Bank/CiTVC co-production in association with SPTIP. It stems from a co-development deal the UK’s Left Bank Pictures inked with China International Television Corporation in 2015 for high-end English-language drama intended for both the Chinese and international market. CiTVC is a subsidiary of China’s state-owned CCTV which has a network of 45 channels available to more than 1B viewers.
