A24 has begun production and will independently finance the first season of Moonbase 8,  a six-episode original comedy series from Portlandia co-creators Fred Armisen and Jonathan Krisel, Tim Heidecker (Tom Goes To The Mayor) and John C. Reilly (Wreck-It Ralph). Armisen, Heidecker and Reilly also are set to star and Krisel will direct.

Moonbase 8 follows three subpar astronauts living in NASA’s Moon Base Simulator in the desert with high hopes of being the next chosen to travel through to the moon.

A24 will produce alongside Abso Lutely Productions with Armisen, Reilly, Heidecker, Krisel, and Dave Kneebone all serving as Executive Producers. The studio will look to partner with a network when the episodes have been completed.

Moonbase 8 is pure comic genius and we are thrilled to be a part of this show from the ground up,” says A24. “We can’t wait to introduce this fearless group of astronauts as they prepare to go where several people have gone before…but not as hilariously.”

Moonbase 8 marks A24 TV’s second independently financed television series. Their first show, Comrade Detective, starring Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt and co-produced under Tatum’s Free Association banner, sold to Amazon and premiered in August of 2017.
