EXCLUSIVE: Orion Pictures will open John McPhail’s Anna and the Apocalypse on Dec. 7 in select theaters before a nationwide rollout.

Based on the 2010 BAFTA-winning short Zombie Musical, Anna and the Apocalypse debuted at last year’s Fantastic Fest. Pic follows Anna (Ella Hunt) and her friends as they hack, slash and sing their way in a desperate race to save their loved ones during a zombie apocalypse – at Christmas.
Malcom Cummings, Ben Wiggins, Sarah Swire, Christopher Leveaux, Marli Siu, Mark Benton (The Halcyon) and Paul Kaye (Game Of Thrones) also star.  Pic was written by Alan McDonald and the late Ryan McHenry (who was behind the YouTube craze Ryan Gosling Won’t Eat His Cereal videos). Roddy Hart and Tommy Reilly wrote the music.
Currently in the post Thanksgiving corridor there aren’t any studio wide releases, which is typical, but specialty labels like Fox Searchlight capitalize on launching critically acclaimed awards season contenders on that weekend.
