Sony Pictures TV continues the streamlining of its operations under new chairman Mike Hopkins with another veteran, president-level executive stepping down. Carney, who has been at Sony for 15 years, will be leaving her post as president, advertiser sales & research at the end of April. Hopkins just announced her exit in a company memo (you can read it below).

Following Carney’s departure, SPT is consolidating the U.S. Ad Sales and U.S. Syndication teams under Philip Martzolf, EVP, U.S. Distribution Syndicated sales. Meanwhile, SPT’s research team, which had been reporting to Carney, will now report to Jeff Frost, President, Sony Pictures Television Studios.

Carney was one of four president-level executives who reported to Sony Pictures Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra before Hopkins’ appointment, alongside Frost, worldwide networks head Andy Kaplan and distribution chief Keith Le Goy. In addition to Carney, Kaplan also recently left in a reorganization.

Carney, who the company in 2003, has led the worldwide research group, which conducts and assembles all program, sales, channels and corporate research, and oversees the sale of commercial inventory in SPT’s first-run and off-network programs.

Here is Hopkins’ memo:

Good afternoon,

I’m writing to share some news regarding the leadership team at SPT. Amy Carney, our President of Ad Sales, Strategy and Research, has decided to step down at the end of April.

Coming to SPT in 2003, Amy helped drive SPT’s greatest successes over the last 15 years through her expertise in advertiser sales, later adding strategy and research to her portfolio. Her strength and leadership in these critical areas of our business have been invaluable in helping grow SPT into one of the industry’s strongest and most prolific television studios. I want to thank Amy for her leadership, hard work and dedication, and wish her all the best in the next chapter of her career. While I have only had the chance to work with Amy for four months, I will personally miss her presence and insights.

With Amy’s departure, her direct reports will change to the following:

  • Jaime Blanc, SVP, Marketing Advertiser Sales, and her team will report to Stuart Zimmerman, Executive Vice President, U.S. Ad Sales.
  • Stuart Zimmerman, EVP, Advertiser Sales, and his team will report to Philip Martzolf, Executive Vice President, U.S. Distribution Syndicated sales – combining both the U.S. Ad Sales and U.S. Syndication teams.
  • Our research team, led by Dominik Leconte, SVP Programming & Networks Research, Wayne Goldstein, SVP International Research, and James Petretti, SVP US Research & Analytics, will report to Jeff Frost, President, Sony Pictures Television Studios.
  • Lara Lile, VP Event Planning, and her team will report to Cathy Goldman, SVP, International Production & International Distribution Marketing.

Please join me in thanking Amy for her tremendous contributions to SPE and wishing her continued success.

Mike
